How to look after your rats health?
If you are not aware rodents teeth grow continuously, rats with healthy and properly aligned teeth will grind them together to maintain a proper length. If your rat doesn’t grind their teeth together it could simply mean they are not aligned properly and chewing on something hard will help.
Rats have a very strong instinct to chew and they find it both amusing and psychologically soothing.
Cheaper alternatives you can use for stimulating the health of your rat is letting them gnaw/ chew on branches, pieces of non-toxic woods, nylon dog chews or after your Sunday roast let them loose on your chicken or lamb bones. Bones are safe for rodents as they slowly wear away the bone by gnawing it whereas bigger pets (dogs and cats for example) will try to crush the bones causing splinters and the possibilities of choking.
